Kate Smith designs and makes precious contemporary jewellery featuring clean lines with distinctly organic patterns and finishes. Her work ranges from simple, everyday-wear silver earrings to sparkling alternative engagement rings and wedding bands.
Working predominantly with gold, silver and diamonds she uses a variety of techniques to create her contemporary jewellery collections.
The inspiration behind all of the collections she designs are details and forms from within nature. By closely observing forms and patterns in objects such as seed heads, new shoots and floral silhouettes, she finds surprising elements, which she echoes in the jewellery she creates.
Photography and experimentation play a big part in the design process as she aims to abstract these details and discovers ways of translating them into wearable pieces of jewellery.
Over the span of 20 years Kate’s business has grown from its humble beginnings at a makeshift bench in her parents’ garage to a thriving studio workshop in The Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham.
Her contemporary work is available through galleries across the UK and DesignYard in Dublin.
